Patta Chitra

For generations the Patuas of Pingla have practiced Pattchitra, painting large narrative scrolls whose stories would be performed and sung in front of an audience. It was a form of theatrical entertainment during special occasions, such as weddings, religious ceremonies, or village fairs. If the audience was pleased by the performance they would gift the Patuas with food and sweets in addition to money. Most of these stories have never been written down, and only exist through the memories of these songs and paintings.
