About Us

What we do

Roots Studio offers limited edition, unique art prints and surface patterns for licensing in partnership with artists in rural India, Indonesia, and Syria/Jordan. We enable artists to participate in the global economy without having to be in an urban center.

Over the past two years, we have worked with over 1200 indigenous artists across 5 states in India.  Our vision is the prosperous village; livelihoods supported by craft skills that have been passed down from generation to generation.  To counteract the flight of villagers to cities – where millions migrate annually to live in unincorporated slums – we seek to shift millions of dollars back to the villages.

We return a percentage  of every purchase directly back to the artists and their communities,  remitting payments via mobile banking into a village account.

Technology is at the core of what we do.  We use it to connect Indian artists from rural villages to the world.  We have pioneered a digitization process where each village is connected to the larger world – they have learned how to scan their artwork, upload corrections and edits to our proprietary site, and sell their pieces to a global community.

Our goal is to allow craft communities to thrive and survive in this new, globalized world. We believe that traditional art is special, unique, and worth holding on to.  There are hundreds of thousands of niche traditional art forms around the world that are slowly dying out with each generation.

Roots Studio reinvests the majority of our products to achieve sustainability, grow our reach, and ensure the fulfillment of our mission.

We are building a world where artists can support their families by sharing their culture and traditions in a new and innovative way.  We invite you to join us!
